Aims and Objectives
Mission Statement
The Institute of Parks and Green Space (IPGS) will advance the management, maintenance and use of parks and green space by promoting excellence in the profession and developing partnerships to deliver our aims and objectives.
It will lead in the identification and promotion of good practice, encourage continuing professional development and help to attract and develop skilled professionals able to provide the highest quality of parks and green space.

Aim One - Shape and influence national, regional and local policy
Objectives
- Work in partnership to provide a unified voice for the sector
- Provide direct and timely responses to policies affecting parks and green spaces
- Advocate the value and importance of high quality greenspace to government and other decision makers
- Encourage members to actively engage in policy development and responses
Aim Two - Identity and promote good practice
Objectives
- Establish an information exchange, through the development of regional forums and other partnerships both nationally and internationally
- Provide the latest information and news to members
- Organise national and regional conferences, and meetings to focus on key issues
- Facilitate a national and international learning exchange scheme
Aim Three - Improve education and training to provide a framework for career development, professionalism and excellence
Objectives
- Identify the skills required of parks and green space professionals at all levels
- Develop and deliver a range of training courses to meet identified needs
- Link with existing training providers to meet identified needs
- Provide a system for monitoring and recording the continuing professional development of members
- Develop a defined route to chartered status
- Develop a code of practice for members
Aim Four - Promote working in the sector as attractive career option
Objectives
- Create a positive public perception of the careers available in the sector
- Identify publicly recognised advocates who will champion the benefits of working in the sector
- Work to encourage take-up of relevant careers by young people and other under-represented groups
- Provide a mechanism to promote the latest vacancies available throughout sector
- Encourage employers to provide adequate training and apprenticeship schemes
Aim Five - Ensure high quality service provision to all members

- Undertake market research to inform current and future needs
- Actively engage members in institute activities
- Ensure the highest quality and professionalism in all aspects of service delivery
- Strive to achieve quality-assured working practices where appropriate
