Conferences

GreenSpace conferences, organised in partnership with IPGS, aim to address and promote the most relevant issues concerning our parks and green spaces. We hold five conferences a year throughout the UK where professionals and those involved in the parks and green space sector can come together to share and discuss knowledge and ideas.

Latest conference: Saving your Service, Birmingham 08/06/10

Saving your Service

A conference focusing on maximising park assets and exploring opportunities to secure the future of green space services.

Park managers have always needed to be canny about the way in which they manage their assets and go about positioning their service, now more so than ever – with budget cuts already affecting some local authorities, and further cuts looming in the future.

So what can be done to ensure park and green space services receive recognition and financial support for the significant contribution they make to the social, economic and environmental wellbeing of communities? And how can managers beat the downturn by ensuring that they are making the most of what is on offer in their parks and green spaces?

Part of the challenge is ensuring park assets have been identified – from buildings and physical features to the less tangible assets, such as a loyal volunteer base and supporters within the business community. Once this has been achieved, plans can be put into place to ensure opportunities to maximise revenue are fully exploited.

Being able to strategically position parks on the political agenda and forge effective partnerships with other services is becoming increasingly important to parks professionals, who need the skills and evidence base to make a clear case for retaining park budgets.

Saving your Service will explore how to go about meeting these challenges, drawing on examples of best practice. This one-day event will feature a packed programme of presentations, workshops and site visits. Topics will include asset auditing, making the most of community involvement, positioning parks on the political agenda, maximising revenue from park assets and sponsorship opportunities, building effective partnerships, and much more.

Who should attend?

Saving your Service will be of interest to park managers, heads of service, policy makers, councillors, community groups, landscape architects and all other public, private and voluntary sector professionals who are currently working with, or have an interest in, parks and public green space.
